What kind of game do you play?

What kind of (Second Life) Game Do you Play????

Recently I was blogging about SL and relationships, and one of the comments was about you need to find the person who plays the same game as you.   That really had me thinking... what kind of game do I play.. and what kind of game should my friends on SL play.   But the more I thought about it, the more it kind of makes sense.   I mean, you log into SL and you have a bunch of expectations... not too much different that what happens in RL.. but it is....

Think about all the different Second Life scenarios....  here are just a few....
  1. Want a fantasy life.. and romance -but happily (at least self reported) married in RL, do not want anything other than through the SL client (or possibly via a SL specific email).. no RL names, info or exchanges...
  2. Want to role play... again can be no real life information, no romance and whatever I say or do.. I am in character.. like an actor on a screen.
  3. Coming into SL for Romance - single in RL.. open to meeting people, want to share things and see where it can go... not just SL, but SL and RL mix together....
  4. Music Lover... I have a real life.. and just want to listen to the different artists and share with friends an appreciation for music... etc... etc....
So these are just a few scenarios.. but lets think about how they would mix together... 2 people dance and romance in Frank's Jazz.  They really hit it off,  they are even on the same time zone and usually both play between 9pm and 11pm nightly on their time.  Now one person, MR.BIG FINGER likes how things are.. and the fantasy of it all.   MR.BIG FINGER works security in real life.. and has 3 kids.. and his wife works nights at walmart.. to 11pm...  Just loves the get away.....  But now MISS.SINGLE LOVIN is 27 and single... she loves SL to meet new people and thinks she met the one.. not for just SL but for RL...  can you see how a clash can come?

Or even if..it is not romance.. but if two people live in the same city.. one could want to be friends and check out things in the Real world.. one is happy just playing on SL....

So I think identifying your game is great... it not only identifies your limits, but how you see second life, what you want, and what you do not want.....

For me, my game seems to be getting to be more and more second life only.. with possibly friends offline as opposed to total overalap.  My real life is pretty crazy, busy and stressful, so I do like the escape that second life gives me.   For me, it is great to log in.. be myself, and meet friends for my own special SL fun times.  It is also good to have the freedom to not log in.. or just roam around on-line and explore... quite time.    But I really can not see  my second life becoming as big as my real life...  Just too complicated these days...  But the jury is still out....  damn that reminds me .. jury duty is coming up!

Back to this blog, I am sure many other people have many other scenarios.. I would encourage you all to think through your SL and share it with the people close to you online.. this way, you can be honest and hopefully reduce the possibility of misunderstandings.. but with people it is bound to happen.

Well, thanks for listening to my ramblings.... and enjoy your second life, no matter what it is to you!

/Steve
